Training for a triathlon is grueling–one to two hours of workouts, six days a week, across three activities plus weight training. It's totally worth it.

Last year I did the Tri Indy Sprint distance, where I struggled immensely with the swim, finding breathing during freestyle untenable, so devolving to mostly side and some breast stroke, putting up a dismal time. I've spent a lot of time in the pool since then, and was really itching to prove to myself that I could swim continuous freestyle for the whole length of the canal (1500 m). Sscondary goal/estimate was to finish in three hours, figuring around 30 minutes for the swim, 90 for the bike, and 60 for the run.

I completed it in 2:58, with a slow-but-steady swim, a breakneck ride, and a plodding run.

Half iron next, right?
